| Splicing Instructions with Fid |
The only tools
needed for splicing
Kenyon Braided carrier
ropes are a Kenyon splicing
needle or fid and a sharp
knife, making splicing a
simple and quick operation. |
|
Step 1
Ready to splice - carrier rope ends, Kenyon fid, safety knife, tape
and marker. |
 |
Step
2
Mark both ends at approximately 800 mm and 1,800 mm from end. |
Step
3
Push the basket back, insert one end of the rope, and release (to
ensure a tight grip on the rope, compress the basket with your fingers).
Insert the point of the fid at the 800 mm mark on the opposite end. |
 |
 |
Step
4
Push the fid through the rope and bring it out at the 1,800 mm mark. |
Step
5
To make a proper taper, start at 300 mm from both rope ends, cut through
one strand of braid and remove. Repeat at 35-40 mm intervals until
seven strands have been shortened, giving a long taper. |
 |
 |
Step 6
The tapered end. Work back into the centre of the rope completely. |
Step 7
To complete the splice repeat steps 2-6 for the opposite end. |
